LIGHT

This term we are learning about Light and Colour. This week we carried out these experiments and this is what we found.

We looked to see what happened when we put a straw in a glass of water.
The straw looked bent but it wasn't. The light was bending.

When we look at a straw in a glass of water, light from the top of the straw travels straight to the eye.
Light from the part that is under the water is refracted when it goes from the water into the air. It changes direction.
That is why the straw looks bent.

In groups of three, one held a torch and shone it on a mirror which someone else was holding. Our third person was holding a piece of white paper which was our screen.
We found that the light travelled in a straight line to the  mirror and then reflected off the mirror onto the screen.

  1. Wow,Room 2, you are so clever. You are also so lucky to have such a great change agent (teacher) too. I did not know that light was refracted. Why does the water refract the light? Does the straw look bigger too?

    1. We used google and came up with this answer.
'When light travels from air into water, it slows down, causing it to continue to travel at a different angle or direction.'
