Literacy Day

Narrative Writing Competition

This term we have been busy doing a lot of narrative writing. Miss Hadwin organised a narrative writing competition for our school. We gave our entries to Mr O'Connor (Whaea Barbara's husband ) to judge. On Literacy Day the prize winners were announced.

Congratulations to Zara for being the Room 2 winner! You may read her winning story below.

Once upon a time there was a young child that lived in a village. Everybody was busy.
One day the young girl was walking on her own. When she was tired she stopped and then she saw a maze. The maze had vines all over it. She tried to get out. She found a way out so she tramped and then she saw a tree. She got too tired. She fell asleep under the tree. When she woke up it was all a dream. The little girl wished it was real.
But it did come real one day. She went to the maze with her family. It looked scary. The maze was made of  electric walls and the vines were dark green.
They walked and found the right path and it led them home.

Book Character Dress Ups.

We enjoyed dressing up as some of our favourite book characters.

Visiting Author

We were very lucky to have the author Ruth Paul  come to our school. Ruth writes and illustrates children's picture books.
Ruth read us her book " The Animal Undie Ball" We then made up a story about a car, a rainbow and some clouds with her. She drew this great illustration about the story on our whiteboard.

  1. Kia ora Room 2. I love your Blog posts about our Literacy Day. Thank you for sharing it. I think your costumes were great and you all could tell me who your character and book were. I love reading. I wonder if any of you will be an author or illustrator when you grow up?
