Welcome to Room 2's blog! Paihia is in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand. We hope you enjoy our blog. Please leave comments for us because we love receiving feedback about our learning.
In our reading we are learning to talk about who the characters are in a story, where the story is set and what problem occurs and how that problem is solved.
This week we had a visit from a fireman. He taught us about fire safety. We pretended there was a fire and we had to get down, stay low and get out, FAST. He also showed us the gear that he has to wear when he goes into a fire. He inspired us to write about it.
I saw Jeremy. He was a fire fighter. I learned about matches. He told us do not play with matches and candles and lighters it's dangerous. Ayanda He showed us the smoke alarm. Kamo The candle burnt the curtain. It burnt fast and it burnt the house. Pharell
I think the candle should not be close to the curtain because it might light a fire. And the smoke alarm might go on. Brisa
Jeremy the fire fighter came to see Room 2 and Room 0 and Room 1. Tane
When we saw Jeremy he showed us some safety when there is a huge fire. He told us about some matches and candles. I might be a fireman like Jeremy. Ebony Jeremy the fire fighter came to see a couple of classes. First he came to see Room 2 and Room 1 and Room 0. He put on his suit, it was quite funny. I tried to get a question, but I didn't get it right. I thought that it was up the hill. Thea I think Jeremy is cool at talking. We like Jeremy. Jeremy said fire is real, he said fire is hot. Ondreous Jeremy is a fire fighter. He needs a gas tank. When there is a fire you shout "fire, fire!" He got all his clothing and he put it all on. He got hot, very, very hot. He got a black sheet that looked like smoke and then he turned a smoke alarm on and we crawled under the sheet. It was so cool. But I hope the whole school didn't hear it. But we did. I felt scared when he did it. Tea Jeremy is a fire fighter. Bailey Jeremy the fire fighter showed us his gear. He showed us his other things and he pretended there was a fire. Ryan Jeremy is a fire fighter and he came over here to teach. Koby Jeremy came to Room 1 and 2 and 0. On a video the fire on a candle burnt a curtain, it was funny. Then he put his clothes on. We went outside to practice going to the field for firewise. Amelia Jeremy the fireman came to see Room 1 and Room 2 and Room 0. He talked about candles and about matches. Tiana A fireman came to school. He taught us about fire. I felt really happy. Fern
Room 0 and Room 2 went to Room 1 to see Jeremy. He told us what we had to do when there is a fire. He told us what he had. Aaron

We are learning to do recount writing. We need to have an opening to introduce who (the participants), what (the event) and when (when it took it place). We then write about the sequence of events and add personal comments.
Yesterday when the water day happened we played in the water sprinkler. That was exciting. It felt like rain. We went on the water slide. We slid on our tummies. We ran then jumped on the mat. It was slippery.

During seaweek all the classes at school walked to the beach to do a beach clean. Before we went we talked about what rubbish we might find. Do you know how long it takes for different sorts of rubbish to break down? We learned that - A paper towel takes 2-4 weeks Newspaper takes 6 weeks Plastic bags take 10-20 years Plastic bottles take 100 years Disposable nappies take 50-100 years Tin cans take 50 years Aluminium cans take 200 years. It was a lovely day so after we had picked up all the rubbish we could find we took the opportunity to have a play at the beach and make some sand sculptures.
On Friday we went to the beach. We didn't get that much litter. Room 6 did. That was bad. When we were finished one of the gloves blew away, but I got it. If no-one had got it, it would stay there for one hundred years. Luckily it didn't. That was good. We got to make sand sculptures. Thea and I made an octopus. The tentacles were made out of seaweed. I pulled some slimy stuff out so we could make the mouth. It looked funny. Tea On Friday we walked to the beach to look for rubbish but we didn't find much. That was good. Room 6 found more than us. When we were finished we made sand sculptures. I made a mountain with sand. Amelia
There was not much rubbish but I saw a plastic bag. I picked it up. After we had picked up the rubbish we made some sand sculptures. I made a girl out of sand. Ayanda The beach was awesome because we collected rubbish. We put the rubbish in the rubbish bin. After picking up rubbish we made sand castles. I looked at other people's sand castles. I wrote my name in the sand with my finger. Tea and Thea made an octopus. Tane

We made a hole and then we went back to school. Ryan We didn't find that much rubbish which was good. But I found a plastic lid. I didn't want to touch the germs so I put my glove on. After, me and Tea made an octopus. We put hair on the octopus which made it look better. It made me laugh. It was very funny. Then we put the eyes on the octopus. After that I put a mouth on. Thea
